In the upcoming 2010 elections, the stakes could not be higher for union members in Pennsylvania.  You, like so many other Americans across the United States, are concerned about jobs and the economy.  That is why it is important to elect candidates with a demonstrated commitment to the working families of Pennsylvania.  In the Pennsylvania Senate Primary Race, that candidate is Senator Arlen Specter.

Senator Specter has a reliable record of helping to create good paying jobs and economic opportunities for the working men and women of Pennsylvania.  This is why the IBEW and the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO have endorsed Senator Specter in the May 18th Senate Primary.

Senator Specter has personally worked on behalf of Pennsylvania workers and their jobs. Going far beyond voting on our side, Senator Specter has advocated for steelworkers in trade disputes with China and worked to secure money for job-creating projects such as Delaware River dredging and the repair of river locks and dams in the Pittsburgh area.

Senator Specter will continue to support workers who are suffering through the economic recession. The ripple effect of the economic recession has been felt by every working family in Pennsylvania. Senator Specter understands that to prevent families from being thrust into poverty, Congress needs to extend unemployment benefits for families to put food on the table until good paying jobs are created again.

Senator Specter is focused on our number one priority, creating jobs. He will continue to push for infrastructure projects like an improved mass transit system that can help workers, seniors and families keep their hard earned salaries in the bank, ease traffic, and create good paying jobs. Specter voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the Economic Stimulus) that has already supported over 12,000 jobs in Pennsylvania for one reason: ?the country cannot afford not to take action.? Funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are being used to build highways and bridges and to jumpstart efforts in alternative energies like wind and solar power that will help to bring jobs throughout Pennsylvania.

The May 18th Primary is a critical step in our fight for the working men and women of Pennsylvania.  It is critical to continue supporting candidates like Senator Spector who fight for us.

On Tuesday, May 18, VOTE, and please VOTE for Senator Arlen Specter for the U.S. Senate for Pennsylvania.

In solidarity,
